There are few computer problems more
frustrating than vista system restore not working. It's frustrating enough when
you've already run into errors with your computer that are bad enough that you
need to jump back to an earlier saved point in your computer's history. Add on
the inability to actually go back before those problems showed up and you've
got a recipe for some serious hair pulling.
Why Won't System Restore Work?
A common problem that people have
with Vista system restore not working is an inability to create restore points.
There are two main ways to create these points.
- You can set your system to automatically set restore points on its own. This is a very good idea, as most people aren't disciplined about creating their own restore points.
- You can set restore points manually. This is optimal if you desire having control over when these points are set. Setting a point manually is a great idea if you have recently completed an important change to your computer, or if you are about to try a new piece of important software that you are unsure about.
The restore system is also occasionally
a hardware problem, which requires a different set of fixes.
Dealing with System Restore Problems
in Vista
There are a number of solutions that
can help you out with vista system restore not working.
- If it's a hardware problem, then you unfortunately have few options beyond replacing your hard drive. If you identify this as being a hardware problem and you have tried everything else, than hiring someone to try and get the data off of your drive and purchasing a new one is your best bet for a smooth running computer.
- Before you go ahead and replace your hardware, try running system restore in Safe Mode. This will stop a lot of the faulty processes or programs that can prevent you from restoring to a previously saved point.
- Some people have found that restore system problems can be fixed by simply adjusting your firewall settings and replacing certain pieces of anti-virus and computer protection software. Certain protective pieces of software have been known to block both establishing save points and restoring back to them.
- The easiest, and simplest, fix involves simply turning system restore off for 15 minutes and then turning it back on. Occasionally your system just requires a reboot.
Get a Registry Cleaner to Prevent
System Restore Problems
There is another huge reason why
your restore system function might not be working, and its relatively easy to
fix. Occasionally your computer registry can become so laden with dead links
and poor connections that it simply isn't able to access restore points
properly. To prevent this back log all you have to do is clean up your registry
once a week with a registry cleaner. This simple step of computer maintenance
can eliminate the vast majority of vista system restore not working issues for
most people.
