Windows Shutdown Problems - How to Fix the Windows Shutdown Failure

The shutdown problems are common in Windows XP System. They always represent
a failure of automatically turning the power off. And the screen resides
permanently on 'It is Now Safe to Turn off Your Computer'. The solutions to
this problem can be different due to its various causes.
Following are the two easy way to solve the shut off problem:
1. Symptoms: No reaction after you click "Turn off Computer"
Resolutions:
1) Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Power Options.
2) Click the profile that you want to delete, and then click Delete. You can now use the name of the profile you deleted for a new profile.
3) Reboot your computer.
Cause: This behavior may occur if there is a conflict of system files like
system.ini between win.ini. You can enter the Protected-Mode when you restart
the computer. Due to the acknowledging uncertainty of the directory of the
conflict, the only way to fix this problem is to repeatedly try this method
until it resolved.
2. Symptoms: The system shutdown stays in progress for a long time.
No reaction to warm restart.
Resolutions:
1) Click Start, click run and enter 'Msconfig' without quote to check the
running programs. Then disable the unfamiliar programs to guarantee a clean
rebooting environment. Also, the problem of sound card and display card's
driver causes the shutdown failure.
In that case, you could try the following methords to fix the driver's problem:
1) Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2) Double-click the System icon.
3) Click the Device Manager in hardware tab.
4) Enable all the device, reboot the system to see if the problem is resolved. If solved, enable all the disabled device one by one to find the device which causes the problem. You should upgrade the driver
or firmware by contacting its business agent.
There is another customary way is to edit the registry:
1) Click Start and Run. Enter 'regedit' without quote to run the Registry Editor.
2) Locate or add the ShutdownWithoutLogon value in the following registry subkey:
hkey_local_machine\software\Microsoft\windowsnt\current version\winlogon,
Note - The ShutdownWithoutLogon value must be set as a REG_SZ type. double
click it to set the value to 0. The causes of Shutdown failure are various. We
have to guarantee a clean environment of our operating system by avoiding
